About me
Jessie “J” Yamasaki was born in Takamatsu, Japan, and immigrated to North Carolina as a child. They earned a pre-med degree in Biology at UNC Chapel Hill, then went on to work in Neuroresearch focused on understanding the development of psychiatric illnesses. In 2016, J relocated to Los Angeles, where they became involved in grassroots projects aimed at improving accessibility and equity in the wellness industry. J found a deep connection with Eastern philosophy’s understanding of the natural elements, our bodies, and how everything is inextricably connected.
Outside of their professional pursuits, J enjoys portrait photography and exploring the hiking trails of Los Angeles with their spouse, baby & pup. She is dedicated to providing accessible and affirming care, particularly to underserved communities, and is passionate about making holistic wellness available to all.

Acupuncture
an ancient healing art rooted in the wisdom of Eastern Medicine. This holistic therapy harmonizes the body's vital energy, or Qi, by gently stimulating specific points along the meridians—pathways through which Qi flows. Using hair-fine, sterile needles, we will seek to restore balance, alleviate pain, and promote overall well-being. Modern research shows that acupuncture is effective in pain management and reducing inflammation, potentially by stimulating nerve fibers, releasing neurotransmitters like endorphins, and modulating the body's immune response. Imaging studies also indicate that acupuncture activates brain areas associated with pain and stress relief, supporting its role in promoting healing.

Do you accept insurance?
Insurance patients can access my services at Golden Folk Wellness in Highland Park. Please follow the instructions here to verify insurance and make your appointment.
How much are your sessions?
Sessions range from $55–$250, depending on length and services. Please see my services page for a more detailed menu. My ultimate goal is to work with patients on a sliding scale model once I am operating independently. For the time being, I am offering affordable rates at City Acupuncture Silver Lake and Dongguk University in Koreatown.
Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture is generally not painful with a trained practitioner and many people find it to be a relaxing experience. You may feel a prick upon insertion, especially over sensitive areas the hands and feet. The term De Qi [得気] means the arrival of Qi. It describes the specific sensation elicited from acupuncture which can manifest as a dull, throbbing, achy, tingling, or pulsating sensation. De Qi indicates proper placement of the needle and patients then typically relax into the treatment, often drifting into an acu nap after insertion.

I’m an inclusive, LGBTQ+ affirming practitioner. I enjoy helping post-surgical patients with pain management, regaining sensation, and gender affirming scar reduction. My practice is inclusive and open to everyone, I welcome you to share as much or as little as you want with me in order to help you feel comfortable joining my healing space.
